Your Search for Greatness

Do You See Greatness?

The beautiful thing about Greatness is that it may be defined by the eyes of the beholder. Although greatness is usually defined as being extraordinary, impressive, striking, grande or just beyond the status the quo.

I know that greatness lives within every single person and our job in life is to simply find the direct path to that greatness so the world can see us shine brighter. Sound strange to you? It’s really not. Each and every human being is so uniquely special, blessed and gifted. By playing small or not living up to your potential, not only are you robbing yourself of your greatness, but also the world.

The main reason most people don’t step into their greatness is because of FEAR! Fear, Fear, Fear…. I frickin love and hate that word. I’ll be the first to tell you that I encounter it everyday. FEAR is nothing more than “False Evidence Appearing Real”. Don’t fall into the delusion that one day the fear that’s really disuised as “shoulda’s”, “coulda’s” or “woulda’s” will one day just disappear. And once the false evidence is gone you can begin to step into your greatness. Because the reality is that that day will never arrive.

Your search for your Greatness will only be achieved when you learn to manage your fear. It’s always going to be there, but when you manage it, you’re liberated as you can just look over at it and smile cause you’re going for it anyway. And when you achieve your greatness that’s when you can love fear too as you give it a little smirk and say “I told you so”.

Greatness

Marianne Williamson is a bestselling author and this is what she says about fear and searching for your greatness:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Finding Greatness

Just by being in the presence of greatness you can begin to flip that switch within you and bring yourself to new levels of what’s possible. A couple of decades ago I stepped into a library and realized that the books that filled those shelves were packed with authors, paragraphs, sentences and words of greatness. And I thought that the more time I spent with these great minds and pieces of literature it may be possible that one day I could go on to do great things too. That was the start of a new paradigm of living for me… My paradigm of greatness!

We can find greatness in so many places. You can send an email to somebody you admire or somebody who has achieved something great in their life. If you live in the same town you can go for coffee with them. You can even fly to their home town and meet them. One of my favourite teachers when I was in my late teens was Tony Robbins and a couple years ago I got the chance to meet him.

Even on the web with blogs, sites and info you can find greatness lurking in nooks and cranny’s. I love to watch athletes achieve greatness in their chosen sports too. Last Sunday while keeping tabs on Ironman Lake Placid I found myself overwhelmed with joy as a friend named TJ Tollakson achieved his greatness as a professional athlete becoming an Ironman Champion. Nice work TJ! He worked so hard for this over many years and after getting off the phone with him I knew how much richer and fuller becoming a great champion was for him.

Remember…the harder we have to work for greatness the more profound it becomes!

Greatness is Everywhere

I even find greatness in the smallest of things. It may be a sculpted vase, bouquet of flowers or a painting. The cool thing about greatness is that it is everywhere. And when you begin to see it more and more you begin to ask yourself the all important questions that allow you to tap into your greatness. Give it a try!

As you see greatness you will happen upon it and that is the gift of being great. It’s not just in famous people it’s in everyone including you and I. Once you learn to shift your lenses and truly see. Once you learn to recognize greatness you can then leverage it to move you.

And in no time you’ll be able to use the greatness all around you to reach in to the greatness within you and show it the world. Because the world is waiting. It’s truly waiting patiently for your greatness.

And eventually you’ll own that state, because you’re always in the presence of greatness.

Never forget that it’s right there. Yes, right there waiting deep within you.

And knowing this with absolute certainty is the greatest gift of all!

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. Great post Sukhi, love it man. I notice you speak a lot about fear in your post. More so about having a great relationship with it and leveraging to your advantage instead of trying to remove it. Congrats to TJ! Sweet!

  2. Awesome Ry! It’s all about managing fear my friend.
